USAGE & INDICATIONS
Post-Myocardial Infarction
At clinically stable patients with the left ventricular failure or the left ventricular dysfunction during time the myocardial infarction, Diovan is designated to reduce a cardiovascular lethality.
Heart Failure
There is no proof, that Diovan provides the added benefits when it is used with an adequate dose of inhibitor of the ACE. On controlled clinical experiment, Diovan considerably given hospitalization for a heart failure. Diovan it is designated for processing a heart failure (NYHA a class II-IV).
Hypertension
Diovan (valsartan) it is intended for treatment of an arterial hypertension. This drug can be used as one and in a combination to other hypotensive ingredients.
ADMINISTRATION & DOSAGE
Post-Myocardial Infarction
Advisable initial dose Diovan - 20 mg two times day. Diovan it is possible to accept already later 12 hours after a myocardial infarction. If the symptomatic hypotonia or a renal dysfunction is observed, it is necessary to reduce dosage. Patients can be uptitrated within 7 days on 40 mg two times day, with the subsequent titrations to a target maintenance dose of 160 mg two times day, in dependence on survivability of the patient. Diovan it is possible to accept with other standard drugs for a myocardial infarction, switching thrombolytics, aspirin, beta-blockers, and statins.
Heart Failure
The maximal daily dose used on clinical tests - 320 mg in separate doses. Uptitration to 80 mg and 160 mg two times day should be executed to the highest dose, in dependence on survivability of the patient. It is necessary to take into account that it is necessary to reduce doses of concomitant diuretics. Initial dose Diovan - 40 mg two times day is recommended.
Hypertension
Diovan it can be applied without and together with meal.
Diovan it can be applied with other hypotensive ingredients.
It is necessary to dose with guard Diovan the patient with liver or serious renal failure. Any initial adjustment of dosage is not required for elderly patients, for patients with average renal failure, and also for patients with an average hepatic unsufficiency.
Addition of diuretic drugs has the greater effect than augmentations of a dose outside of 80 mg. If the padding hypotensive effect is required on an initial range of a dose, the dose can be enlarged to a maximum of 320 mg, or diuretic can be added. The hypotensive effect is present basically within 2 weeks, and maximal reduction in general is achieved after 4 weeks.
